Behind the Scenes

The Life of a Newly Formed Professional

At 23, I landed my first professional job as an office assistant for a RE/MAX firm, which I thoroughly enjoyed. After working there for about five years, I moved to the parent company, RE/MAX Pearland Home Team, for more rewarding opportunities. Despite eight years of experience in the real estate industry, I felt something was amiss. My reading and basic grammatical skills required improvement, which I believed hindered my prospects for advancement. Driven by a desire for self-improvement and to be a better role model for my children, I decided to acquire an education.

You see, I dropped out of high school at seventeen. Nevertheless, I was determined to grow in every possible way and avoid living paycheck-to-paycheck. Therefore, I left the real estate industry to work for my family’s electrical contracting company, which offered flexible hours to attend school.

In 2018, at the age of 28, I earned my GED. I completed the required classes on time and obtained a scholarship of $750. I was later selected to speak at Pearland’s 15th Annual Red Hat Luncheon for the Adult Reading Center, where I addressed over 200 attendees because my scholarship letter was so inspiring.

The Pursuit of Personal Growth

Personal growth is a journey we all embark on at some point in our lives. It requires us to leave our comfort zones, embrace change, and challenge ourselves to become better versions of ourselves. As we go through life, we encounter obstacles that may seem insurmountable, but it is important to remember that every challenge we face is an opportunity for growth.

For me, personal growth has been a gradual process that has required me to be patient and persistent. I have had to learn to let go of negative self-talk and self-doubt and instead focus on my strengths and the progress I have made. It has not been easy, but the rewards have been immense. I have become more confident, resilient, and adaptable, and I am better equipped to handle whatever life throws my way.

Moving forward is an essential part of personal growth. It means being open to new experiences, taking risks, and learning from our mistakes. It also means acknowledging our past and using it as a stepping stone towards a better future. As I look towards the future, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. I know that there will be challenges and setbacks along the way, but I am committed to staying true to myself and my values and to keep moving forward toward my goals.

Moreover, personal growth is a lifelong journey that requires patience, persistence, and a willingness to embrace change. By focusing on our strengths, learning from our mistakes, and staying true to ourselves, we can become the best versions of ourselves. So, let us all keep moving forward, one step at a time, towards a brighter and more fulfilling future.

The Start of ACC – Go Fins!

I took the plunge and joined Alvin Community College in the summer of 2019. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions! I was nervous but pumped to learn new things. It was a tough road to navigate, juggling a full-time job, two kids, school, and bills. Despite the obstacles, I was determined. Giving up was not in my vocabulary.

Just as I was about to finish my business administration degree, life had other plans. Hurricane Harvey hit, and then COVID-19 shook the planet to its core. The classes went full-on virtual, and I had to take calculus three times before finally cracking the code independently. But I didn’t give up! I was fortunate enough to get a ton of scholarships and grants and even tried to shoot for a 4.0 average. In the end, I was pretty satisfied with my 3.2 score.

ACC Graduation

Due to COVID-19, we were not able to walk the stage. However, all smiles here when I received an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration.

The Final of UHCL – Go Hawks!

During the fall of 2020, I persisted in my efforts despite the challenges, remaining hopeful and optimistic. Although it was challenging, I found myself crying, screaming, and sleeping at times, but I persevered and overcame many obstacles.

My perseverance paid off when I walked across the stage and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing in the spring of 2023. In the face of adversity, it’s essential to persist and remind yourself to keep going- to not give up. There’s always a glimmer of hope, even in the darkest of days. I’m proud to say that I’m a college graduate, and every moment of the journey was worth it.

Wishing you all good health and well-being!
